My builder thinks I should put a bead of mastic along the join where the wall tiles meet the floor tiles (non-wet area). I'm not keen on mastic and would prefer grout. I am aware grout may crack along the join eventually. Please can you advise which route is best (or provide an alternative solution) and explain the reasoning so I can understand?

Well applied silicone. Flexible and can easily be cleaned.
Grout on the floor usually ends up dirty, cracked and looking awful.

floor grout should never end up dirty . only numptys use white or light grout in floors.
