Hi all.
I have removed an old and dated carpet from the staircase and landing and want to paint both of them with white wood floor paint. The wood to be painted is standard bare pine ( i think) with lots of knots.
1) do i have to use a knot sealant or can i get away with it?
2) i will sand down the staircase and landing and use white spirit to clean up all the dust. Do i have to seal the bare wood with a primer first or can i give the floor a couple of coats of wood floor paint straight away and get away with the primer? Thank you in advance for your advice.

well i would use a knotting solution, your kick yourself if the knots end up bleeding through after all your haed work.

Thank you gregers for your input. Would i also have to to use a primer for the staircase and landing prior to give two coats of paint? I have just bought a pot of Ronseal white paint for floorboards and it does not mention any use of primer prior to painting, but only to lightly sand the bare wood surfaces down. As you advised , it does mention the use of knot solution though..Can anyone give me any advice please? I am not sure whether using a primer on bare wood is a must or i can get away with it. If i don't, would the wood just absorb more paint or would the finishing also be compromised? Thank you for your time.

well i like others are old school, knotting, primer, undercoat and gloss and maybe 2 glosses?
