We are fitting a basic kitchen in the coming weeks in a very small flat. The old carpet has been removed and we are planning on replacing it with basic laminate flooring from ikea.

So what's best

Do the flooring and place the cabinets on top?...

Or....

Fit the cabinets on the floorboards and fit the flooring around the cabinets?

Cheers

Doesn't really matter either way. If you lay the floor after doing the cabinets then:

1/. Make sure you have enough laminate for the gaps to slide any freestanding fridge/washer etc

2/. Make sure you set the cabinets high enough (I assume that IKEA legs are adjustable) to allow for the height of the kickboards which should sit on top of the laminate, and the white goods indicated in 1/.

Don't put cabinets on top of laminate it prevents expansion, though laminate is a bad idea in kitchens as a leak or spillage can cause a lot of damage.
