Hello! Recently, I read that many central heating-users would benefit financially if they reduced the boiler "flow rate". Now, in our house, there are only three radiators (all of them are "double", i.e. they are convector-type radiators). Only one is what I would call large (100cm long), the other two are quite small. When I looked at the flow rate yesterday, it was set at 30. I suppose this low figure is because of only having the three rads. The hall, kitchen and bathroom get warm enough when the heating is needed. My question is: does 30 seem to be about right for our set-up?

With thanks in advance for any informed replies,
L.L.

the article you read uses the term flow rate completely wrong they are referring to boiler thermostat temperature setting

in the pro section of this forum We had a laugh about the wording in the article when it appeared

Not sure if you are reading the flow or return temperatures, or neither, if you can interrogate the menu, d.40 gives the flow temperature and d.41 the return temperature.

John, you lost me. I couldn't understand what you said. However, the service engineer called today, and he said that 30 was alright for our radiator set-up. So thanks anyway.

They pointed out that they were not referring to the thermostat setting, as I remember.
Its a pity he didn't tell you what this mysterious 30 is.

Does it stay at exactly 30 every time you look at it?,
Are the rads hot to the touch or just luke! warm?.

Well, he only wanted to get finished and away, didn't he? When the radiators are on (which, of course, they are not at this time of the year), they have always been hot after the heating has got under way. We have not had any problems with regard to heating the various rooms. I should need to check a few times, to see whether it stays at 30, but if that's what it is set at, why would it change? Remember, you're conversing with an ignoramus as far as boilers go. Just try me on Latin, or Sanskrit, and see how I shape then! Ha, ha!
