Hi
Im a corgi engineer and a customer has asked for her back boiler to be removed and a DFE installed in its place.The existing flue liner is more than 20 years old so Im suggesting it be replaced before installation of the DFE. Having no experience of flue lining, does anyone have any tips on how to do it, or know the approximate cost to sub it to a specialist?
The chimney is a CLASS 1. Ive been looking on some supplier websites and they suggest that this kind of job is within the scope of DIY?

The existing liner is more than 20 years old so cant comment on its condition and suspect that the mortar in the chimney is no good. Would if I could just remove old liner and install fire?
Many thanks

This is basic, back boiler units need liners because of the high output of them which would affect the structure of a chimney.
Fires are usually about a third if not less of an output so a does not usually need a liner unless MI `s ask for it.
So what you need to do is remove the liner then check the integrity of the chimney by using smoke pellets. if there is any leakage you would then line it but when a DGF asks for a liner it is usually a 7 inch one which apart from being a horrendous price is are usually a feker to get down.

But if you don`t know the basics of this i would just stay away from job there too many bits you may miss with fire install . Have a look on plumbing section under the heading spillage there is a list there.

Thanks namsag;

info about back boiler high output needeing liners was known, Just airing on the side of caution as dont know the integrity of the chimney fabric.
Only been CORGI since January so my learning curve is still steep and I tend to be over cautious.
Thanks again!
Steve
