I have a leaking flushpipe - the trouble is, it looks a bit strange, so I
don't know if it can be repaired in the usual way. The cistern sits on a
raised lip at the back of the bowl, so there isn't much room between the
two. The flushpipe is a right-angled moulded thing with a flat flange at
each face, and screwholes so that it can all be fixed together. There is a
foam washer at the mating surface with the cistern, but nothing between it
and the bowl. It's leaking a bit, and to be honest, I can't imagine how it
would be expected not to, given that there is nothing sealing it. Is there
something missing from this arrangement, as I suspect?

Thanks.

are you taking about one of these ?

That's the one. But mine does not have that black bit in the middle. I guess that explains the problem?

its a twyford accelerator kit.
you can get the black finned washer seperate without buying the whole kit.

try give twyford a ring. think they are in stoke on trent.

seco my old fruit

what the fook is that horrid thing never seen one of those before where are you likely to be able to purchase them from :?:

you can still get them with abit of shopping around.
i think twyford still stock them.

go's on the bottom of a c/coupled wc where as the c/c useally sit direct on top of the wc on these the cistern sits back abit and this links the cistern to wc.

mind you saves all that removing the complete cistern to change a washer
and they rarely leak.

Actually, there /is/ a thick foamy washer on it, but it's on the top side, under the cistern. It seems to put a strain on the whole thing, because it's so thick, and its making the lands where the nuts meet bend a bit. It also seems to push the bowl end of it upwards. Do you think this washer should be where my missing black seal is?

Also, the long end is sort of 'telescopic'. Should it be glued in place to fit the bowl? Or should it be left as it is?

i would say at sometime that washer has been changed and fitted with the wrong one (thicker) so causing a problem thats why the finned one may of been remove.

the one in the bowl must be a finned one.
don't know what you have on the cistern end.

have you got a pic ?

the telescopic part as you say has not been a problem only that your missing the finned washer etc so i would leave it.

i can't remember what type or thickness the cistern washer is meant to be as its been a few yrs since i've worked or seen one.

He. I've never had to photograph my lavatory before. Anyway, this is it in all its glory. You can't really see the washer, but you can see how it is distorting the accelerator body. The washer itself is about 1cm thick, and made of dense black foam rubber.

I hope this image is visible, I'm not sure if I'm inserting the URL correctly:
