We bought a floor lamp from Ikea with a foot operated dimmer switch.
The bulb went - and so did the switch!
So, does anyone know where I can get another switch or how to repair the existing one?
Thanks
Pele.

Don't know anywhere that sells them

Without seeing the dimmer switch I couldn't really say for sure, but it shouldn't be too hard for someone who knows what they are doing to repair, but unless you know someone who is handy with that kind of thing, then its probably a lost cause

I could speculate that if the light is stuck on full brightness then the triac has failed (that would be the failure mode I'd expect), but unless you are handy with a soldering iron to remove the old one... obtain an exact replacement and resolder it, its off little relevance - sorry

I would take it back to Ikea but ..........

B&Q do sell the foot operated dimmer switches they arn't cheap though the last one I brought was about £15

Had it too long to take it back (over 2 years now).
It's not stuck on bright - it doesn't work at all!

Think I might take it apart and see what I can see.
Thanks,
P.

If it broke at the same time as a lamp it is quite possibly a triac which has gone, your local electronics repair place may be able to replace it for you. Might cost more than Gaz's idea tho!!

No you haven't.

Read the small print on any guarantee or warranty, and it'll say "your statutory rights are not affected". Your statutory rights include goods being of merchantable quality, and you are protected against defaults that become apparent within a reasonable time. Provided you used the correct type of bulb, it is not unreasonable for it to be 2 years before one fails. Bulbs do fail, and the people who made the dimmer should know that.

If a failing bulb takes out the dimmer then the dimmer was no good - take it back.

If you open the dimmer up it probably contains a small fuse, which has most likely blown, maplins sell replacements for them, just take the old one with you and they will be able to supply you with one.

You have tried changing the fuse in the plug aswell havent you ?????
