I am starting to build a garage / workshop at the side of my house. I have had my planning permision aproved, so it's all go now. I'm now at the first stage the footings. These are now around 90% dug out.

I have come accross a few pipes when digging the footings, some going to soak away, some are soil waste. I have been adviced I need to build up around these and put a lintel over them, is this the case?? Could someone please go into more detail about what I need todo? And do I need todo this before building regs come around for the first time?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Regards,

Jim

It depends on how far your lintel needs to span and what kind of access you have to the foul drains - bridging over drains is common - if you only need to go over a 100mm pipe and allow for movement around the pipe say 300mm total span this shouldnt pose a problem. you could pour your foundation below the pipe or shutter the foundation away from the pipe.

The BCO will need to see the ground of the foundation trench before you pour concrete so you can mention this at that time and gauge his opinion.
