Ford Cougar central locking

I have recently bought a 1999 2.0L Ford Cougar and the remote does not always work first time, i am guessing this is the battery but is it true that once dismantled you only have 15 seconds to replace it or it has to be reprogrammed ? Secondly the passenger door lock only seems to work from the remote or key intermitently and has to be opened via with the key in the passenger door. Any ideas ????

it should say in the handbook how long it takes before reprograming is required.
be careful when you take the fob apart as there could be the pats chip within it and this is easily lost,and costs you a bloody fortune to get it sorted.

check for broken wires within the door gaitors for any fraid/broken wires then check the motor/s etc.
