ford focus key remote

Hi,
My son has just bought a 1999 Ford Focus 1.6 LX. The problem is that the key fob remote control doesn`t work. We replaced the battery but this made no difference. We noticed the L E D in the fob dosen`t light. Is there anything else we could try before we replace the key and has anyone an idea of what the cost of a new key will be.

hello,
a bit late perhaps but it sounds like theres a problem with the key as the light should light up when you press the button. With regards to a new one they aint cheap!! you have to take it into a main dealer for them to program the new key to the ECU. i think a new key is about £85. madness i know.

Hi, Yes it was the key that was the problem, my son got the key from the main dealer and they programmed it for him and I think it was only about £40. Thanks for the reply, Jocojohn
