For sure, I haven’t come across any Diesel engine without a filter......as well as particle, water separation is a big issue.
As for the petrols, it seems to be a lottery.....the early Focus had one just forward of the tank which was a swine to remove - it’s vanished now.
I see few petrol cars now, and most of them have no fuel filter other than the tank one.
