Can anyone advise me if they know what would cause a noise when the steering wheel is turned. The noise can be heard when the wheel is operated and the car is stationary. When the car is being driven the noise is apparent when turning corners. I am sure the noise is coming from the column and not the rack. any ideas?????

If it has power steering I would be checking the fluid reservoir - if its run empty it gets quite noisy! What sort of noise is it?
The vehicle does have power steering and it is topped up to the required level. The noise is coming from the steering column.It sounds like a grating sound.
check the upper column surport bearing if you think it the column.
