Can anybody tell me please, can I replace a 2lt diesel with a 2.2lt diesel engine, they are both mk3 Mondeos.

I'm not certain but I think the 2.2 uses a different gearbox, so check that out first.
If that is the case then it would mean replacing both the engine and the gearbox, other than that there shouldn't be any real difference as the body shell and running gear is the same.

The Mk4 2.2d definately does have a different gearbox from the rest.

I know the mk3 2.2 has a 6 speed box, not sure on the 2.0.
The bit that gets me wondering is the can of worms you may open with the ecu, if you keep the old 2.0 one then it will almost certainly need some reprogramming. I don't know if you can just swop it out with the 2.2 without upsetting the immobiliser and so on.

You can swap engine and box as one lump, but you will need some programming done as the ECU will need tuning to the new injectors. Each injector has a unique code that needs programming to the ECU.
