Guys,
Starting to dig foundations for my porch, thought I would dig an exploratory hole next to neighbors wall which my foundations will be next to.
Dug 6 inches and then his foundations end...
He only has a block wall but my problem now is that I have to dig my foundations all along the side of his wall approx 6 metres.
Should I dig in several places so that I dont disturb his wall and then infill.
Also extra hassle as I am having ready mix delivered...
Your thoughts and guidance appreciated.
Thanks

You aint got PP have you?
It aint worth having ready mix if you have to do it in stages .
Hang on a mo! If your digging 6metres along his wall, how long is the width?
Your building more than a porch me thinks!

Gents,

Its 2.4m wide, I have planning permission as required, but dont need building regs.
There are many threads regarding porches on here and mine is under 30 sq metres so does comply.
cheers

On another point - I have dug down 1M on my foundations and I have hit just soil. is that what I should be aiming for ??
No clay at all.
Thanks

There might not be any clay

What you tend to need is a firm subsoil, so if the ground is not all loose or made up and soft, then 1m should be fine

Look at it this way, if the house is not moving and you have gone down as far as the existing house foundations, then the depth is suitable
