foundation widths

hi i am in the process of planning to build a garage,what i would like your advice is on the width of footings,i will go down the metre but as the garage is only single skin do i still need to go 600 wide or will 300 do_Or maybe you guys have new methods which may be quicker,the soil is clay its gonna be 5m long and 3m wide and 2.5 high.

The preferred foundation width is wall thickness plus 150mm concrete projection each side.

So, for a 100mm thick wall you would require a 400mm wide foundation.

As Chuck has said this may turn out to be 450mm if digger bucket sizes prohibit.

If you are hand digging i bet it will be slightly under. :p
