Our neighbour has planning permission for a extension.
He has started to dig down to is foundations and now i can see a exposed power cable leading into is house.
The next day i notice there is a 4 feet deep hole exsposing the gas pipe
left open to the weather .(He is a diy person.)
Do i inform the gas board before he blows us all up.
Thank you for any advice please

Do you mean you can actually see bare exposed copper, or you can see the black insulation on a run of armoured cable?

What difference does it make if the supply pipe and cable is visible

He obviously needs to dig the trench, at which time the pipe will be exposed

Do you also want to go touring the streets and report to Transco all those properties which have an external copper gas pipe, running up the outside wall?

would you rather he didn't expose it and tried to 'find' it with the digger bucket

I rang transco to inform them i could smell gas and they found a leak.
and a damaged power cable which was next to the gas pipe.
Its better to be safe then sorry!

heeelllooo and welcome Betdo :D :D :D

mmm you have change the ground rules here exposed pipes/wires damaged pipes/wires smelling gas or seeing sparks are all completely different scenarios requiring different action

in the same way "he was driving the car" requires no action
"he was driving the car erratically " requires a different action
he was driving erracticly and smelt off drink requires a different action

They sold all their tranny transco vans with inverters in the back - a lot are used in Brighton as Taxis - allegedly

Yeah sure mate. You are a complete nutter. I don't believe a word of it.

I don't understand all this, but for posperity, gas regs specifically forbid building any structure (including foundations) above a gas main or a gas pipe.
