I am trying to work out how to set a timber raft I am making on to some sort of foundation "concrete preferably". I am building an exterior studio 5 Mtrs x 2.5mtrs x 2.5mtrs high, timber framed, EPDM roof, cedar cladding, UPC windows and doors etc.
Because I am restricted in height I want to make the base out of 4x2 at 400cc with a ring beam around the perimeter edges. With a width of 2.5 mtrs I should really be using 6x2 to prevent deflection in the floor. So....... the timber base needs to be off of the ground, i am thinking 50mm should be enough to allow ventilation under the studio, but its what to sit it on and how to support it. I don't want a concrete slab, to costly, I was looking at forming concrete piers then using fence post connectors bolted to the top of the piers to connect short 4x4 fence posts to the timber raft.
I am sure you may come up with a better alternative but should I go for the pier design how far do I need to dig down what diameter should the piers be?
