frdge freezers outside

I have fridge freezer in my garage and reading from some earlier forums have discovered that it will not work if tempreture gets to low it is now below freezing where i live and it has stopped working.
does this mean it is broken or will it start to work when tempreture rises.

it's not broken, it's just being clever.. if it's already freezing then why should it work to make the inside of the box freezing?
there's a thermostat that measures the inside temp and as it rises turns on the gubbins to cool it down..
in freezing weather, it just doesn't rise..

When I was working in domestic appliances, there were special models made for cold climates.
They would have thicker insulation & special compressors.

kind of defeats the object though..
if it's -15°C outside for most of the year, then surely a wooden box on the porch would do fine?

thermostat is in the fridge
fridge is lovely and cold so no cooling required if you raise the temperature to perhaps 13 degrees in the garage the compressor will start to work and the frozen section will probably average around -6 so the frozen stuff would last perhaps a week more days than in the fridge

if you raise the room temperature to say 18 degrees the freezer will be work fairly normally

what ever happens once thawed out you cant refreeze the food safely
you can of course cook things like pies and make steak into stews and refreeze

as long as your sure nothing in the freezer has risen above 5 degrees you treat it as being in the fridge with the normal fridge shelf life applies
