Well softus - when someone is falsely accused of an offence, most rational thinking people would think that a government then being vindicative to cover they're own a**es is just wrong.
But then as you said earlier, "who cares"...however, fortunately many do!
Ellal, I think your being way to simplistic on this. The system has worked. The Dr was accused of being involved in an extremely serious conspiracy and was detained by the Australians based on the evidence they were initially given.
It has now been established that there is insufficient evidence to hold the Dr as the initial evidence was either wrong or misleading. As a result he has been freed and allowed to travel freely. The Australians has stated he is free to leave if he chooses, but that his work Visa will not be renewed when it expires in 9 months time.
They are not deporting him or slurring him, they have not rescinded his Visa, as they have every right to do. Lets not forget that the Dr's cousin, whose home the sim card appears to have been found in, WAS a member of the bomb plot and is a terrorist, therefore it is right and proper that the security services investigate any and all links that all people associated with these people have. If they failed to do this then many more terror plots would succeed and many innocents would lose their lives as a result.
What happened to the Dr is unfortunate, but surely it is better that one or two individuals have a bit of aggro in their lives for a short while, than a link be ignored to satisfy the liberal mentality of some and that link being the one that plants a bomb in which children and other innocent people die?
It is a sad fact that for us to do our job then some of the innocent will be detained whilst any links they have are vigorously and diligently investigated. It is an unpleasant aspect of the job and more often than not the detained are innocent, but you would be very surprised at the useful information that is gleaned from these innocent people as they tend to know more than they realise and in many cases their help is crucial.
It is also possible, in the case of the Dr, that he has been released to lead security services to other members of the cell/organisation so that further attacks can be foiled prior to them being enacted.
