I just tried to switch my freezer back on after defrosting and nothing. The motor appears to have died. Are there any tricks to get one of these 'kick-started'? It's only a motor afterall. What could have possible broken??

If the freezer is old, and if you turned it off while the compressor was running, then the piston may have come to rest when not in its parked position, and be preventing the motor from rotating.

If this is what's happened then hopefuly someone with more expertise might have a way of getting it going, but don't leave it switched on or the motor might burn out.
