I am off to France at the weekend and was going to buy some of those of the plaster uplighters that are sort-of one-quarter of a sphere shaped and use them to replace my existing metal fittings.

Is there anything I need to watch out for ?

  1. They should be fine - CE marked, the voltage is the same, so there's no more to watch out for than if you were buying them here, which basically boils down to how do you join onto the cable that comes out of the wall.
  2. Don't think the French use BC lamps, so you haven't got that to worry about. Don't buy spare lamps though - they will be rated for 220-230V, and as our voltage is still 240V in practice they will burn out more quickly.
  3. If you have limited space in the car, consider if you would achieve a greater net saving by filling it with beer and buying the lights over here.. 8)

Should be enough space for lights and alcohol, thanks, but shall bear it in mind. Don't want to overdo it on the wine, like in the old XXXX ad...
