Hi all,

Our Baumatic BR26A fridge-freezer seems to be running wamer than normal -- 8c degrees in the fridge as opposed to the 5c I'd expect. As well, the compressor seems to be kicking in much less often than before (I suppose I could be imagining this but I'm pretty tuned in to household sounds/patterns). Indeed, it was the total silence (and softer butter!) that first made me worry.

The thermostat in the fridge hasn't moved and it's not been set to fast-freeze mode or anything like that. I defrosted last night and it's working but still, it doesn't seem as cold as I'd expect. If I turn the thermostat to a colder setting the compressor won't instantly kick in (which I think it used to)... however, if I switch the fridge off and then on, the compressor kicks in right away. Suggestive of some kind of fail-safe? Or blockage?

Any ideas?

Harry.

Changing the fridge temp wont make the compressor kick in right away, since normally, the compressor cools the freezer directly. Then the freezer cools the fridge via forced air (a fan).

It will wait for the freezer stat to require cooling, then cool that, and at a preset time, the fan will kick in to distribute some cool air into the fridge. Depends how its programmed though.
