My front extension will have between 4 and 6 courses of bricks between ground level and DPC/floor level.

In order to maximise use of period facing bricks, I'd like to minimise use of engineering bricks. Am I safe to use engineering bricks in a stepped pattern so that there's always a minimum of two above ground level, and will this minimise the capillery effect of water soaking up through the bricks and blowing the faces on the facing bricks?

Thanks

Gary

It is my understanding that all bricks below dpc must meet a certain rating.

This is not to say however that a lot of facing bricks can't be used below dpc.

Some of my reclaimed bricks are certainly cheesier in texture than others. I'll look into it...
