hi guys - got a 2004 peugeot 307 hdi 1.6....wont start, fuel pressure low symtom...according to mechanic he reckons its the fuel/guage sender unit that is located on the top of the tank...acess to this is by removing the rear seat....if this is faulty....will it prevent the car from starting ?....car tries to start but wont...if left overnight and started..it starts for about 10 secs then cuts out...i thought this fuel guage.sender unit was only showing how much fuel is left in the tank via the gauge on the instrument panel...can someone confirm this as i don twant to buy this part and find out its still not working...mechanic reckons it is faulty ?...ta

A diagnostic scanner will show the fuel pressure on cranking. If this is too low, it could be the electric fuel pump in the tank (if it has one). This is generally part of the fuel gauge sender unit as well, so this is possibly what the mechanic was on about. Another reason for low fuel pressure is a faulty fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail. Try spraying "Easystart" into the air filter and see if it continues to run on this. It could also be a fault on your immobiliser system, as this will permit the engine to start on the initial prime of the pump, but will not let it continue to run if the immobiliser is not synchronised with the ignition key.

The fuel low sensor in the tank, will never stop an engine from starting. Where is your mechanic from La La Land?

And squirting 'Eaystart' into a diesel engine won't help.

New fuel pump required, or a bleed of the existing one. You can manually pump it, but if it's gone, it's gone.
