I'm painting the bedroom ceiling using vinyl matt emulsion.

The wife is complaining about the fumes, I want to put another coat on later this afternnon, but she's concerned she won't be able to sleep in the fumes and they are dangerous.

Are they dangerous, the paint is water based so I shouldn't see why?

Thanks.

Emulsion is water based. There are no dangerous fumes that would come off them!

I doubt that very much to be honest. Ive been painting 33 years and never had a headache with a water based paint.

maybe not you

but emulsion has made me feel very ill at times

I now keep windows open while I'm working and give it an extra day to clear.

I wouldn't want to sleep in a newly painted room.

Try using a product called Petal, if still availiable. You mix it with waterbased paints to help hide the odour. Smells a bit like parma violets, when added. :)
