Fuse Rating

Hi,
I have run a 30amp 6mm T&E for my hob, could anyone tell me what fuse I should fit at the consumer unit, at the moment it is 40amp, should I change it to a 32amp?

There are more variables here than you think. Length of cable, where it runs, the rating of the hob.

And 6mm² cable IS NOT RATED AT 30A. It has many different ratings depending on where the cable runs, how long it is, and the ambient temperature.

If its just the hob, a 32A or 30A protective device should be ok, though without a rating from the hob given to me, I cant be certain. 40A may be a bit much for your cable, depending on the factors above.

Do you know about Part P? Will you be getting the installation tested? Search this forum for part p if you dont know what it is.

because I, too, am a DIYer, hoping to get on an electrical course soon, and dont know the formulas you speak of, however, i appreciate their existance, and was giving advice that might be useful to this guy, regarding the assumption that his 6mm cable is rated constantly at 30A, no matter what its surroundings.

I believe that I will opt for 32amp option to be on the safe side with the view of getting tested when finished !!!

PS (I have not purchased the hob yet but was told to run 6mm T&E) !!!
