They are not just randomly half way up the wall with no indication that they are there - like yours - but run where there is an accessory, which obviously requires cables to be connected to it, so giving people an idea that cables might be there - so put their nails somewhere else.
It's not perfect but better than nothing and, of course, there is nothing that be done to indicate that someone like you has been there in the past.
