Does the 3amp fuse not just give the socket an extra barrier of saftey or really, there is no point?

There's really no point. In the event of a major fault, it would be pot luck as to whether the 3A fuse blew or a 6A MCB tripped (or both). However, no significant harm results from using an 'unnecessary' FCU in that situation.

Kind Regards, John

5 amp plug and socket maybe - then obviously different and I think perfectly ok.

Think there is a 3amp as well.
