G4 10w bulb - what is that the equivalent of?

Its a 10watt lamp.
4 of them give you 40watts. It is halogen so the light will be a harsher, whiter light than the old tungsten (GLS) lamps.
it is not a low energy bulb - those provide more equivalent light for the watts consumed.

You'll get green spots in your vision....
Halogens are marginally more efficient than conventional incandescent bulbs. However the types of fittings halogens are typically usually used in domestically are poor for general illumination making them less effective at lighting a room than a lower power normal bulb.
