Gainsborough are budget shower units sold by the likes of B&Q .Thechances are there is leak from some joint or split in the heater very unlikely it can be repaired
Replace it with a decent Electric shower ,Mira sports are excellent and will last

Remove the cover and check poss the prd has failed.
