I have posted this on the general DIY section as I thought it would cover my question, but please move it if you think it should be somewhere else.

Anyhow my question is that I have noticed that there is a gap appearing between the top of my gas fire and the wall, it is fixed to the wall and has been for many years.

I just wanted to know what you thought would be the best repair to make so that the gap can be covered then painted.

I thought perhaps if there was some kind of filler I could use to apply to fill in the gap, preferably white being that the wallpaper is white and has recently been painted.

The Gas fire seems to be firmly in place, so I would imagine that any wall movement would be down to age.

The dimensions of the fire are H56cm W83.5cm D19cm, and is a wooden surround.

If any more details are required please let me know.

It would be best to get the fire serviced this would allow an engineer to check the integrity of the fireplace, just in case there is more than a simple problem there.

Do not just put a filler in as this may prevent the fire from being removed in future.

Also all gas appliances should be serviced every year,in the case of fires this involves removing the fire and checking the chimney.

Where gas and applancies are envoled always get a qualifide proffisional in.

It was just a couple of loose screws and re-adjustment.

Thanks for your kind replies.
