Hi all

Ive papered my lounge and gaps have appeard at the joins can anyone tell me what causes this. The wallpaper recommended to use a ready mixed paste and leave to soak for five mins, which i did. It was extremly hot the day i papered could this have been the cause.

To be honest, some wallpapers these days are crap & even so-called expensive one's. Though could have been caused by Hot Weather, Porous Surface, Papering over Cheap Emulsion, Papering over Matt Emulsion, Radiators left on, Underfloor Heating left on, Fire been left on, Heat coming from another room or non-stretchable wallpaper (i.e. non-vinyl) etc....................................

Gaps in wallpaper seams can also be caused by pushing too hard when smoothing out.
Need to be gentle but firm. as my old foreman use to say your sposed to hang wallpaper not hammer it on.
Though as t/eye says heat and paste driying out whilst soaking dont help

Plus a non absorbent or shiny surface..allowing the paper to shrink back to much as it dries

So many factors..

If its a coloured paper try taking some to a paint shop and getting a match forthe colour then wiping it down the joints...remembering to wipe them clean as you go

Ive hung a sanderson paper in a curry house and the joints all appeared showing the white backing of the paper, which was a deep golden browny cream..very similar to the big tin of spice they had left out in the kitchen in fact....

Handy eh?...I rubbed it into the joint...perfection!..the owners thought the wallpaper was very authentic...it even smelt like India!

I have done that a number of times, as its annoying when you hang a coloured paper, and the backing is white, and it shows.

You can either buy a matchpot as near as the colour you can, and what I do, is slightly thin the matchpot paint, paint down the gaps, then get a cloth or kitchen roll, and sort of wipe it off again, so its blending in with the paper also.

The other way to do it, if you plenty of time, is before you paper, if you can sort of work out where your lengths are going to go, buy a small tin of the colour, and brush it on the wall a few inches either side to where you think the butt joins will be, then paper as normal, and you wont see the white edges, as the colour is already painted underneath. :D

I know this is an old thread but I have a similar issue so didnt see the point of a new thread, and hopefully the op may post how he corrected this problem.

We bought some wallpaper for our feature wall, its a floral design, black grey and silver (not to my taste  )

I hung the wallpaper and had a lot of problems trying to hide the joins, when you rub your hand over the paper you cant feel a join but you can see a white line, so Im left thinking Im seeing the edge of the paper, as the back / edge of the paper is white it stands out, Im tempted to wipe some paint down the edge but as its black grey and silver what paint could I do?

Im also interested about these crayons (I never knew about them before I hung the wallpaper  )

Any help would be great
