The Architect that is drawing thew plans up for my extension and garage has specified a block and beam floor with 3" of screed on top, does this sound strong enough? :?:
The reason he has'nt put a conventional floor is that there will bee approx 3' of hardcore plus needed to get it to floor level.

Has anyone heard of this method for garage floors?

Cheers.

The strength of the floor is gained via the beam & blocks rather than the screed. However 80mm (3") does seem quite slim, although quite normal if used internally on a domestic floor using sand & cement screed.

I would probably specifiy somewhere in the region of 100mm solid concrete with a rough finish to provide a harder wearing course that wont scuff or chip as easily when items are dropped as they often are ina garage situation

Iv'e since done a bit of research, and the use of block and beam floors seems to be quite common, even the litrature from the suppliers lists it as a common use, hoverer they do specify that you use the denser blocks as standars, also the screed will apparently be only 2" :?:
