Hi all,

We bought a new build and the boiler is in the garage. But it is right underneath our bedroom, and so when it is on it wakes us up.

I was going to get 2 sheets of 50mm insulated plasterboard and screw them above in the space above the boiler. You can see it in the pictures.. It is exactly the right size for 2 sheets of 2400x1200.

Can anyone help with the best way to ensure I'm going into the batons?

Or would anyone do this differently ?

Thanks for you advice !

Unlikely to help much, and those boards are for thermal not acoustic.
Is the floor void already full of rock wool type insulation?
If so I think you may have to live with it, chances are the noise is travelling via the wall structure and CH pipes anyway rather than through the ceiling.

It does have insulation in, I thought it may be the pipes also.

So you think it's a lost cause?

Unfortunately yeah. The sound transmission isn’t going to be stopped and I don’t think it’s even gonna be noticeably reduced, by adding to the ceiling

Move the bed?

There should be a lot of insulation in that floor, have you checked?
