Heya,
Have just wired up garage, put in its own consumer unit and have the lights hooked up.
I happen to have a roll of 6mm cable which i imagine is quite heavy for a ring circuit...It looks like it would be a pain trying to spur from socket to socket etc.
Anyone any tips on how i can use the 6mm?
Cheers,
Marty.

Run the 6mm at ceiling/roof height as a radial then put in 4mm drops down to sockets but at the last socket just drop the 6mm straight in.
That way you'll still be ok to use a 32amp mcb.

Or

dont use the 6mm

Cheers Comms...I dont want a pile of junction boxes either so not sure if that will really do either.(no ceiling installed so i can use joists for staorage...so the less fiddly looking bits the better)
I think ill have to get some 2.5mm T/E

Good idea though thanks
Martin.

...and by using MK ones i will achieve what exactly??...am i missing a private joke or something??!!

Not at all!

MK specify their socket outlets as being able to accept 3x2.5mm² or 3x4mm² ot 2x6mm² , which is beyond the requirments of BS1363 which merely require that socket outlets be able to accept 3x2.5mm² or 2x4mm²

Not at all, what they mean is that MK Sockets have larger capitcity terminals on the back of them, I think that they can take up to a 6mm or 10mm cable in them (I have not got my MK Catualog to hand at the moment to check what the max cable size is)

Edit: You beat me to it Adam :!:

Thanks lads...pity i didnt know that before i bought a load of sockets!!(B&Q crap...look fine though, and i wont be doing any arc welding in there!)

Anyway for the time being im just going to wire one socket beside the fuse board with 6mm cable.
I need to fit out the garage with shelving to get everything off the floor and it might be best decide where exactly to put the sockets once ive it shelved out.

Thanks again,
Marty.
