Hi,

I need some more sockets in the garge, as I have only one. A local sparky has quoted me and it seems steep as he said there is alot of work involved. I didn't think so, but am not too sure. Basically I have one cable coming from the house into the garage, into a double socket, then onto a fused socket, which is for the boiler, programmer etc. Cant he just extend the existing double socket adding two more doubles, so he goes from house into and out of the three sockets and then onto the fused socket? I wouldn't have thought that would have taken too long. He said it was already spur (from the house) and could not be extended, therefore he would have to do some more rewiring and make them into the ring, by getting another cable out into the garage to make the ring. Is this right?

Cheers in advance.

yep.

also he should run a , oh, look in the wiki / search for garage / shed supply

Cant a fused spur(13amp) be used on the cable coming from the house making a sub circuit?

How do you mean, this cable has been there since the house was built, it comes from the house into the garage ( the garage is staggered to the house but had 2 -3 foot joining the house) the garage is also on the kitchen ring main (tuble dryer goes off with kitchen power)

so you are now saying you use a td on it too?

i am curious about what the cable actualy is and its size

also as it comes from the house where in the hose, does it come from the CU or?

Currently the td is in the garage, I wanted to have an extra socket to use for my bike charger, radio, etc as I have to keep moving the td fwd to get to the socket. The feed from the house is 2.5mm, I understand what you mean about where does it come from, all i know is it is on the kitchen ring.

Now I am worried, as every socket in the kitchen has two 2.5mm in them making the ring, how can I detirmine whare the garage supply comes from, house is only 6 yrs old...

its all wrong then.

if its on the kitchen ring its a spur, if its a spur it is as you say in 2.5 the cable size is too small and it is probably in twin and earth.

i bet the electricain was quoting to change it, in which case he is right

OK it makes sense. I think he wanted to use armoured from CU in house, into garage. I will let him get on with it...

Cheers 8)
