I have a long grassed bank of 2m height and 30 degree slope to my lawn - its about 60m in length. i want to cut back 2m of this bank to widen the lawn - hence the need for a retaining wall. soil is pure sand well above water table. wall height above ground will be circe 5-600mm

! was thinking of concrete foundation (rebar requireed?) then 3 courses of 100mm or 140mm dense concrete blocks with a trellis facing. I may need a 215mm hollow concrete block course over the foundation else its a huge amount of concrete!

any views on dimension of foundation?

does it need rebar?

does it need vetical rebar to anchor the blockwork horizontally?

if i do a course of the wider hollow block to get to lower ground level can i get away with the 100mm block - they are well cheaper than 140mm - perhaps with piers every 2m?

can i backfill with my sand soil?

i guess i need the drainpipes every so often?

any other construction methods? i thought perhaps 1/2 sleepers on concrete foundation but no saving appears.

Any thoughts from you would be appreciated.

thanks
Chris
