hi there,

I have a 2ndhand gas boiler, and all it is doing is really HOT water or COLD water, and nothing in between.

I have adjusted the temperature guage on the front and still HOT or COLD, and the pressure is good.

When i adjust the tap area (lift and swivel), it either FIRES the boiler up at a biting point (HOT) or doesn't (COLD).

what should i do? what is wrong with the boiler? images below.

It looks like an open flued instant water heater.

If so then apart from being illegal to use they are highly dangerous!

If I am right with my identification then a larger image does not make it any less dangerous!

Just easier for old plumbers to see.

It has been illegal to use open flued boilers in bathrooms since about 1986 because so many people were killed by them.

You might be able to make up an argument that its OK because its not in a bathroom.

But I and probably no other registered gas engineer would have anything to do with fitting or repairing it.

Thats why DIY gas work is potentially so dangerous because you dont have this knowledge about whats classed as dangerous and what is illegal to fit.
