You should always do a functional test of the system BEFORE starting work, I've been caught out before when doing inspection/service work. You don't always have the time though.

You've worked on the system and so indirectly altered the conditions within the Boiler. Unfortunately now it seems you have no way of proving what you did hasn't affected the Boiler so may have to take this one on the chin.
