I had a gas fire professionally removed recently and a few hours later our gas boiler stopped working. Odd coincidence.

The boiler just will not switch on. It is not a fuse issue. Might it be to do with something else related to the earlier removal?

Like to get an idea before spending hundreds on a solution.

Did the boiler actually run in those 2 hours? If you only noticed whenyou turned it on - IS THE GAS METER EMERGENCY CONTROL VALVE TURNED ON?

Do you have a working gas cooker,or other appliance?

Other than the fitter forgetting to turn in the gas, I don't see how his actions could affect the boiler, unkess he accidentally isolated a switch.

Was he Gas Safe registered?

Hi Fireman T

Thanks for the reply.

Yes other gas appliances all work and he was gas safety registered. The boiler did work immediately after as I had a shower. Then not.

It's 3 years old so I was surprised (perhaps I shouldn't be) to see it go within a couple of hours of the gas being switched off and on again. Wondered whether gas pressure or something might have caused a malfunction.

Might be clutching at straws as not in any way my field.

sounds like bad luck if it worked long enough to provide a shower, assuming its a combi.

Can we get some useful info please....

Boiler?
Fault codes?
Error lights?
Pressure guage reading?

Hello Dan, thanks for asking.

In the interim I had the same guy back (as removed the fire) who spoke to the boiler technical team and thereafter took the 'plastic box' out and replaced it, seems it was the transformer that had melted, as could be seen on the outside of the box once it had been removed. It's an Ideal boiler FWIW, although of course, not so ideal for us.

What caused the error in a 3 year old boiler, I'm not sure, so of course it could happen again. There were no error codes, the whole boiler had shut itself off and would not restart until the thing was replaced and now seems fine..

Isar?

Was it a black plastic box replaced with an orange one? If so you were lucky it lasted 3 years the orange ones are a bit better now tho :D

Yes and no gasservice1985. Spot on with Isar, but was orange replaced with (used) orange, so will prob look at sticking it on some plan until it can be replaced with something better. We inherited it, sadly, didn't choose it.
