Gas Tumble Driers and African Debt

Hi,

Has anybody got experience of a gas tumble drier at home?

They say that they are 1/3 cost to run of an electric one.

Appreciate any feedback, good or bad.

With three kids under three, our electricity bill is beginning to look like the national debt of a small African country.

Having read this though;;;;; it may be just this make/model but maybe Paul who asked the original question may be interested.

there is a "Which" report on tumble driers on their website, but it is very long. I can't see when it was in the magazine (which you could consult at the library)

But looking at the White Knight products (none of them are in the best Buy list) looks like the vented are better than the condensors which allow too much moisture to escape. They did not test the gas ones as they are uncommon

Gas tumble dryers are cheap to run, far cheaper than electric. However on the downside, they are expensive (supply and install maybe £1000, depending upon gas supply) and although simple in operation you may find it difficult for service and repair. Your RGI will need his laundry/leisure ticket and not many pay out for this qualification as there is little call for the work. British Gas however will cover the appliance on a service contract.
White Knight are the main supplier.
The only time I have seen them in domestic use is in (British) Gas Engineers houses!

Err yes, back on topic..... Thanks for the comments........ You're right, by far the most expensive bit is getting a gas supply to the right place for the drier.

domestic gas tumble drier cost around 250 quid and should cost no more than a gas cooker to install as they use the same fittings so say max extra £70. Best vented direct to outside which you can do yourself.. A lot faster an cheaper to run than electric .Keep filters clean on every use to help trouble free running... The burners do attract the dust and fluff and will need stripped down properly at least once a year by someone who really knows how they work otherwise ignition sequence of burner will be very eratic. Had a look at that review link regards reliabilty reviewer said they have had 2 thermocouples fitted in 2 years well they re getting lied to as they don`t even have one. Had two white knights my self over past 16 years. Had a few faults with the first one nothing major.. and one i have now is about 7 years old now and only ever needed serviced
