The left hand valve gland nut is impossible to move, is this now just a form of O ring seal?, the right hand valve gland nut (~ 3 year old spare) is quite easy to move and presumably the gland can be topped up like it always could be?.

The older one (both 3/4") has a reduced bore of 15.1mm but can't measure the bore of the newer one with a vernier calipers but looks about 19mm, 3/4".

I never use gate valves now because they seize quite quickly, or never close properly when you want them to.
Use a lever valve instead.
The last 3 Lever valves I used all leaked after a 2 years or so when shut against a mains pressure of 3.4/3.6bar and had replaced a 30 year old gate valve that never leaked a drop, guess what I am replacing lever valve no3 with?.

Nope, anything with a gland nut uses a gland type seal. O-Ring type spindles don't use nuts, they are all usually C clipped.

Don't think I've ever seen a gate valve without a gland seal. All gate valves should only every be used with gravity supplies IMO.
