Are all gateway valves clockwise to turn off and anti to turn on. There are three gate valves on a freinds heating. One from cistern to the cylinder. One on pipes to feed and expansion tank. There is also one on the pipework near bottom of the cylinder just before the pump, i think this is on the radiator side. Is it good practice to have all these valves and are there any dangers if they are not all open fully

Then when your son comes to stay at Christmas and decides to fit you a new bath tap washer he'll turn them all off break the shaft of the one for the hot waster and ring us Boxing day to get the water back on.
