I need some help and advice on the above topic please.

I have gas central heating and the radiators get warm but the gas boiler can only get the tap water luke warm. I can heat the tap water using the electric immersion heater on the hot water tank in the airing cupboard.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Do you have any motorised valves in your airing cupboard? Is your cylinder stat set at the right temperature? A little more info on system needed.

Thank you for the replies. I have set the HW cylinder thermostat to 60 degC. How do I test the motorised valve ?

Thanks again.

If the cylinder stat was set to low then it maybe problem sorted :D see how you get on.

Thank you for the reply. I just put the hot water on for 20 mins and the radiators got warm but the hot water didn't get much above lukewarm. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your mot valve is stuck in ch position and not returning to default position of hw only open.

You need to try and locate and identify what valve(s) you have for us to help you further. They are usually in your airing cupboard.

Thank you for your replies. I have two manual valves. I have opened and closed them and the water seems to be getting hotter now. I also have a Drayton MA1 3 PORT MID POSITION VALVE REMOVABLE ACTUATOR.

Hope this helps you to help me.

Best Regards.

Sounds like your motor has gone in the valve controlling your hot water. You can put it in the manual position to give you hot water as a short term fix but you will either have to replace the motor or the whole actuator head. There are tests that can be carried out to see if your motor is receiving any power. If you have access to a muti-meter, there are plenty of posts on here to help.

When you say you have 2 manual valves do you mean bleed/vent valves? If they are it sounds like it could be more of an air problem if you say you open and closed them and the water got hotter. Have you touched the 3 port valve?

This actuator has 1 lever on the end for selecting mid position.
The other lever on the side marked W M H is only a position marker not a lever.
The other black button on the opposite side is to release the actuator.

Sounds like your motor has gone in the valve controlling your hot water.

The motor don't control hw only it only operates the valve to move to Mid or heating only position.
The valve will fall to hw only position when all power is removed from the actuator.

When you have hw on only check the marker on the actuator i bet it's stuck on H position.

Yes, i know the valve motor holds the valve in mid-position or heating only and the spring returns it back to its rest position if hot water is called for or the programmer switches off i must have misread the post, thought an s plan was being described at first, sorry.

If the programmer switches off the valve will stay in last port of call ie heating/hw
