Hi all

I hope someone can help. We live in a block of flats and our boiler recently stopped producing hot water. On closer inspection, it looks like the bottom of the expansion tank is leaking out the water.

As I am getting mixed messages, could someone pls let me know if the expansion tank can be replaced only or will the whole boiler need to be replaced.

Also, another plumber also suggested that we as a temporary measure we can support the float in the expansion tank so that it send a signal to the main boiler to heat the water. However, this to me sounds dangerous as I would have thought that this some safety feature of the boiler.
Thoughts please.

Thanks in advance
Brian

hi
the pulsacoil is a thermal store not a boiler, when you say it looks like the expansion tank is leaking do you mean "it is leaking" or just "its lost water somewhere"
if the latter and it hasnt got float valve connected (thats valve not switch ) then it has probably just lost water through evaporation
dont tie the float switch up as you may damage the element!
just manually top it back up to the waterline and the green water level light should come back on and all should be well (you will have to wait for the water to heat again first though)

Hi Matt

Thanks for your reply. To be more specific, it is leaking and its through the bottom of the expansion tank.

I have not tried supporting the float valve as I did not think this too wise to do.

Would you know if the expansion tank can be replaced independent of the bigger tank, or will we have to replace the whole lot?

Thanks
Brian
