Hello,
Can any one help before I call in the specialists?
Have 30cxi for about 8 years?
Was working fine up until an hour ago, it tripped the house mains electric.
As soon as mains power is applied to the boiler it trips straight away.
Have checked the water pump for free rotating.
Took the front cover off and checked the trip switch for gas supply to combustion chamber, not tripped.
No water dripping anywhere.
???
It's friday before new year!!! Grrrrrr humbug!

Crash,
think its the diverter valve.
Called glow worm and they advised to remove all the circut board plugs and see which one trips the electric.
I gonna get a new diverter valve fingers crossed!

If you do that its likely to have a short life as the leak kills that one too.

Agile,
What exactly do you mean?
I now have a new diverter motor, not fitted yet.
Haven't noticed a leak as such yet, where would it be likely to come from if its effecting the diverter motor?
cheers

The diverter!

But why are you so sure its caused by the diverter valve motor?

I think it is too but just asking you why YOU think that!

Amusingly it almost certainly could be dried out and recovered if its only tripped an RCD.

Right,
I thought heard a strange noise coming from the diverter before it tripped.
After talking to Glow worm/Vailent the said one of 3 things it might be, one being the diverter. they advised me to do as follows:
I disconnected all leads going to the circuit board and connected them one at a time, all but one which was the one with two sets of wires, one going to the diverter and the other going up behind the front panel to the heat exchanger.
when this was plugged in the diverter made a very strange noise as though it was failing either mechanically or electrically, then the boiler tripped the mains electric again.
So here goes I'm just about to change it, couldn't see any leaks when I took the old out or signs of the diverter being wet.

Ok,
Its all working fine, hot water on demand, central heating kicked in, so I guess it was that after all, if it happens again least i'll know its not the diverter doing it.
Thanks for your input guys.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

You never know could be back on here in 30 mins...

It is almost certainly the diverter valve pin leaking and that is likely to leak again and repeat the problem.

You can dry the old one on top of a radiator and it will probably work again after 2-3 days.

make sure the cable hasnt melted as well. I think sometimes the motor draws too much current or something making them do this. Your lucky it hasnt taken the pcb out.

Tony,
You are probably right, the clip looked a little rusty when I took it out.
Will it last me until the year?
I hope so....
Yeah I'll use the old one after i put all the pieces back together.
So how hard to change the diverter valve then?

cheers.
