Good Day, and Merry Christmas to all.
To me, a pilot problem means my plane is likely to be delayed, so I'm hoping one of you "experienced" boiler technicians can help me.
I've just moved in to a new flat and cannot for the life of me work out how to ignite the pilot on the water heater (Glowworm Ascot 1.4S)
The old biddy who lived here previously has died and nobody seems to have a manual.
I've followed the instructions on the cover - Hold down flame button, press spark button repeatedly.
I DO see a little spark in the window, but she just won't kick in.
The gas is on, as the hob works fine but I'm guessing there's some kind of isolator preventing gas getting inside the Ascot.
Is there a screw or a valve I need to turn, or should I just call in the experts?

This beast is so old that it's very likely to have been cut off because it wasn't working safely They've been obsolete for years. Is anyone likely to have been to the trouble of isolating it for any other reason? All that usually happens when biddies move on, is that the gas goes off at the meter. There's a knob to turn if you just want the pilot off.
The isolator is probably quite simple, and easy to find on the pipe, but you stand a high risk of paying someone to come and tell you you can't use it!

Any idea where the knob is? (ok, no crude jokes please ;) )
Would it be on/in the boiler or somewhere on the pipe from the meter?

There's a fairly big screw on the bottom of a brass fitting (I read in another post this contains a diaphragm) - thought maybe I should try turning that?

I'm getting a new combi system anyway, but just wanted some hot water while I decorate the place, so am reluctant to pay someone to tell me it's knackered.

If I'm likely to kill myself (or the neighbours) in the process, I'll just have to boil the kettle instead.

No don't turn the one you mentioned!
Can't be more specific - can you post a picture??

Assuming all was working ok before , pilots only pass a little gas and pipework to the appliance maybe full of air and it is not all out yet for pilot to light... Other than that blocked pilot or poor position of elctrode.

Undo bottom 2 screws of case and tilt forward and unhook from top
.Then try and light with a match.
Make sure you put case back on top first so it hooks in then bottom then have a tug at it to make sure it is on proper
