We have a Glow worm Betacom 30 boiler, over the past few weeks it has been getting noisy (intermittently) when the heating is on, it's OK when just hot water is used. The noise is vibration that gets transmitted through the pipework so you can hear it throughout the house. It seems to be coming from the pump, has anyone else had this as a problem?

Is it worth stripping the pump to try to cure the vibration?

Cheers in advance.

The pump is probably worn. Probably due to dirt in the system because when fitting cheap boilers the installer is not paid enough to do a proper job to include power flushing.

Pumps cannot be "stripped down" to stop noise.

Depending on the type of noise, it MIGHT be caused by pipes under tension or not properly clipped. Sometimes it can be stopped by loosening connections and carefully tightening them whilst avoiding letting the pipe twist.

Have just slackened and re-tightened the CH flow and return pipes they both have move to slightly different positions to before and the noise seems to have gone away, will keep an eye/ear on them.

Wow....

That was a very quick response to do the repair all within 40 minutes!

That just shows how a problem can sometimes be fixed very simply and at no cost.

Its all just an example of how cheap and careless installers can be to allow pipes to twist when joints are being tightened. The pipe is then in tension ( or rather tortion ) and allows pump vibration sounds to be transmitted through the pipework.

I hope that it turns out to be a complete solution to your problem.
