the other possible problem could be the keypad, potterton ep 2000, that you turn it on and off with. if i put it to hot water the central heating comes on aswell. has any one heard of this. thanks janine.

I'm not sure but i'll get him to check, not had chance to investigate any fufther yet. thanks again. janine :)

make sure theres water in the f and e cistern

Your not suggesting a fuelsaver Mk2 is installed on a gravity hot water system are you?

Lack of water in system is a good sugestion, fully pumped systems run dry as well you know!!

Of course they do! The heating would fail though. Fully pumped systems cannot run dry without both the h/w and c/h failing. Like most topics, I suspect the OP wont reply once the diagnosis is confirmed.
