My combi boiler (a Glow Worm Swift Flow) is admittedly pretty old, and was in the property when we moved in last year. Just recently (when you most need it) it has decided to start cutting itself off. The boilers mains light will be on, and the heating doesn't neccessarily need to be running for the mains light to just go off, losing all power to the boiler. If i give it a firm knock in the panel that opens, directly above the mains/running/low pressure gauge lights it comes back on, working normally for anything between 2 minutes and 2 days. I don't need to relight the pilot, it just fires up when the mains light comes back on. Sometimes the firm knock will fuse the house, before i finally get it to come back on. I don't have the maximum temperature that high (maybe just under 2/3's full).
Other than age i was hoping somebody on here might be able to explain why it just loses power at random moments, and hopefully give me a hint as to what i could possibly do to stop it.
Cheers,
A cold Midlander.
